Odie Ray Faircloth, 95, passed March 31, 2024, at his home in Baird, TX. He was born January 6, 1929, in Hico, TX, to Odie Rayfus and Mattie (Mosley) Faircloth.
Ray graduated from Winters High School in 1949; his senior trip doubled as his honeymoon after he married Wilma Dorsett in Abilene, TX on May 14, 1949. He worked various jobs over a few years until he settled on his chosen profession as a roofer and was the owner of Ray’s Roofing Company for numerous years before retirement.
Some of his many hobbies included fishing, hunting and tending to (or chasing!) his cows. Ray spent as many waking hours outdoors as he could, and after the week’s work was done, he could be found sitting in the bleachers on Friday night supporting Baird Bear and Clyde Bulldog Football. He never hesitated to remind everyone to bring him sweets for his birthday, too, and enjoyed the attention.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, his daughters Irene Floyd and Kay Faircloth; three brothers, Aaron Faircloth, Harvie Faircloth and Melvin Faircloth; one sister Juanita Faircloth.
Surviving family includes one son, Tommy Faircloth and wife Jackie of Abilene and one daughter, Deborah Faircloth of Baird; two sisters-in-law Virginia Faircloth of Abilene and Nita Heinz of Levelland, TX, one brother-in-law Grady Dorsett and wife Evelyn of Abilene; 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves a legacy of honest, hard work and being present.
Family visitation will occur at Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home 141 E. 3rd Street Baird, TX 79504 Friday, April 5, 2024, 6-8 pm. Funeral service will be Saturday, April 6, 2024, 11 am, at First Baptist Church 240 Race Street Baird, TX with graveside following at Ross Cemetery Annex. Those who wish to make a gift of memorial may do so to Callahan County Meals on Wheels or Kinder Hearts Home Hospice.
