Jean Gordon Obituary

Allie Jean Gordon went to be with her Savior during the early morning hours of Thursday, June 2, 2022, ending her 93 year journey on earth.

Jean  was born December 22, 1928 in Hamilton to Richard Hiram and Edna Pearl (Sayles) Stanford. She grew up on a farm, but moved to Hamilton, with her sister, Opal, as soon as she graduated from high school at age 16 and began working in a drugstore. It was there, at the soda fountain, that she met Woodrow Columbus Gordon, just home from World War II. They quickly fell in love and were married for 64 years before his passing in 2010.

Jean loved life and lived it to the fullest. She dedicated her life to her husband, her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. One of the highlights of her life was being able to support all of her children’s school and athletic activities. She was well known in the community as the sweet cashier for iconic local grocers including Miller’s, Black’s, and Roger’s Food Stores.

She loved God with all her heart and faithfully served as an elder’s wife in the Baird Church of Christ for many years. In recent years the Hamby Church of Christ was her church family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by children Max Gordon and wife Nancy of Brady,TX,  Peggy McCue and husband Don of Cleburne, TX, Woodrow Gordon and wife Linda of Abilene, TX: grandchildren Nickie Burleson and husband Brian of Clear Lake, IA, Towar Bell and wife Sherry of Ft. Worth, TX, Karen McWilliams and husband Matthew of Rochelle, TX, Stuart Bell of Baird, Zach Gordon of Abilene, TX, and Sarie Jones and husband Eric of North Richland Hills, TX. Jean is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home in Baird. Interment will be in Ross Cemetery Annex.

Pallbearers are Towar Bell, Stuart Bell, Zach Gordon, Matthew McWilliams, Chase McWilliams, and Conner McWilliams.
