Margaret Abernathy Obituary

Margaret Lynn Abernathy, age 81, went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 13, 2021 at her childhood home in Baird, TX. She was surrounded by her grandson Josh, who so graciously took great care of her during her final years with Alzheimer’s and dear friend Polly Beeler.  She was born in Baird on November 7, 1940.

Margaret grew up in Baird and married her beloved sweetheart Benjamin Abernathy on October 19, 1957.  Shortly thereafter having 2 children, the family moved to Carlsbad, NM.  There, she stayed involved with the children and their school activities and moved on to work at a mini mart and running a Dairy Queen.  Later she was a school bus driver for the Ballard Bus Company. They retired in Baird and traveled often to lake Tawakoni, TX, enjoying fishing and spending time with family.  Margaret was loved by many and she always tried to please everyone.  She loved to cook, collect recipes and crochet.

Those left to cherish her memory are children Kenneth Abernathy and his wife Marlene of Chengdu, China, Kathy Craig of Round Rock, Grandchildren Joshua Smith of Baird, TX, Mason Abernathy of Tawakoni, TX, Morgan Abernathy of Sydney Australia, step sister Jean Tatum of Houston, TX, nieces Sherry Rogers and Sandy Clingan and nephew Charles Allen, many cousins and wonderful friends.

Those preceding her in death are: her husband Benjamin Abernathy, mother Alma Mitchell, stepfather C.D. Mitchell, father Pat Murphy, sisters Darlene Fagen and Cathryn Allen, stepbrother Charles Mitchell.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Friday, December 17, 2021 at Ross Cemetery Annex, Hwy 283 North in Baird, with Rev. Jimmy Hatcher officiating.
