Valerie Walker Obituary

It is said: “A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.”

It is with the full impact of that reality our Family announces the passing of our Beloved Valerie Carolyn Walker on March 2, 2024.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 9th March at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home. Burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Anson, Texas.

Valerie was the only child born to William (Bill) Spruell and Doris Stapleton Spruell on March 17, 1947 in Stamford, Texas. She spent her early years in Anson where she attended school and received her GED. She later met Burl Walker and the two were married in 1974. Burl adopted her daughter, Tara. Together in 1975, they added another daughter, Janet completing their family.

Valerie joined Burl in his chosen career of Law Enforcement; becoming a Deputy, Dispatcher, and a Jailer. She served in Eastland, Swisher, and finally Callahan County where she was a Jailer and Dispatcher for 32 years.

Valerie was known for her generosity and kindness, often sacrificing herself and her time for others whom she cared for. She was also strong-willed, stubborn, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was an avid animal lover. Gardening, sewing, and cooking brought her great joy especially after her retirement in 2012.

Valerie loved her friends and family with a complete and fierce love. She loved you because she chose to. She was never influenced by people’s opinions. If you had her love, you had it until her last breath.

Her greatest love after being widowed since 2006 is her grandson, Hoss. There is no mountain she would not have climbed for him, and he will always be the apple of her eye, even from the Great Beyond. They were the best of friends, and she was a second Mother to him, spoiling him beyond any redemption (ha ha!).

Her departure comes as a great shock and has left a deep gaping wound; one that will never completely heal. Her physical absence will be felt by her Family and Friends as long as we draw breath.

This precious woman faced and overcame countless hurdles in life yet the hardest thing she ever had to do was leave her darling Hoss. It caused her the most pain.

Through God’s Grace and those of us left behind, Valerie will not be forgotten. She will always be with us: guiding and watching over us, like she always did. She has impacted so many lives over the course of her journey that their stories and their memories of her will keep her alive in our hearts and minds.

As we say goodbye for now, we thank you Valerie for showing us how to live life, treat others, and enjoy each day as a blessing. We will miss you greatly, until we meet again in Heaven.

Valerie was preceded in death by her parents William and Doris Spruell as well as her husband Burl Walker.

She is survived by her daughters; Tara Walker, Janet and husband Rick Jowers. Children by marriage: Linda Ellebracht and husband Dennis, Wanda Miller and husband Jay. Grand Children; Hoss Jowers, Chad Miller and wife Julie, Colt Miller, Emily Jurica and husband Jerry, John and wife Liz Ellebracht, and Trevor Jowers, . She was a Great Grand Mother of 7.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Hendrick Hospice for their expert and loving care during her final days.

Valerie loved flowers in life, and we believe it will be a fitting tribute in her going home ceremony.
