Virginia "Ginny" Roden of Baird, Texas, passed away peacefully at Hendrick Medical Center South in Abilene, Texas on October 31, 2023.
Ginny was born on June 29, 1938 and retired from Texas Instruments in her later years. After retiring, she devoted her time to volunteering and giving back to her community, including the Belle Plaine Cemetery, the local food bank and various church activities. As a child, Ginny stood on her parents' porch in Pearl Harbor, HI and watched the USS Arizona sink on December 7, 1941. In 1959, she married the love of her life, Jerry Lee Roden, and the couple enjoyed 56 wonderful years together. As a military spouse, Ginny was a constant figure of strength and stability for her two children, David and Adam, during their father's deployments. Virginia was no-nonsense, stubborn, and opinionated, but had a heart of gold and would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Together, Jerry and Ginny, traveled cross country in their RV with their granddaughters, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with the Outdoor Adventure's Group in South Texas and on the Texas Gulf. After Jerry's passing, Virginia enjoyed working with her church and spending time with her family and friends, ranch animals, and dog, Amber.
Virginia is survived by her son David Roden and wife, Koni of Kingston, OK; granddaughters Debra Jo Meroney (Roden) of Rockdale, TX, Jessica Len (Roden) Kocher and husband, Grant of Rose Hill, KS, and Crystal Guerrero of Wichita, KS; and six great grandchildren-Kierce, Beckett and Kymree Kocher, and Aleksia, Isaac, and Nayeli Guerrero.
Virginia is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Lee Roden; her son Adam Wayne Roden; and her parents Betty and Link Gebelin.
Family and friends of Virginia are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, November 6, 2023 from 12:00 to 1:30 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Baird. Services will follow at 1:30, and burial will be in Belle Plaine Cemetery. In addition to flowers, expressions of condolences may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Baird or to Belle Plaine Cemetery Association.
